Opening a new conversation…
Shola is a Developer Relations Engineer at Kinde (since June 2025). He builds the technical story for Kinde's products and ships the code that proves it. - He led the developer narrative for the billing launch: 15 long-form articles and a live AI SaaS app that passed **18,000 views** against a 15,000-view target. The launch led to **20+ direct conversations** with founders and engineers who were evaluating Kinde. - He built the [Kinde Agent Kit](https://github.com/kinde-oss/kinde-convex-agent-auth), four Convex components for AI agent identity, billing, memory, and tool access. - He wrote the official [Kinde auth provider for Mastra](https://github.com/kinde-oss/mastra-auth-kinde). - He built reference apps in Kinde's starter-kits organization, including [Jev Gatehouse](https://jev-gatehouse.vercel.app). His Kinde work is tracked live on [his DevRel Studio dashboard](https://kinde.devrel.studio).
Shola is a Convex Developer Champion (since March 2025), one of 33 worldwide. Convex's Head of Community invited him to apply after reading his production engineering and community work. He builds on Convex, writes about it, and helps teams adopt it. **Open source** - **14 components** in the official [Convex Components Directory](https://www.convex.dev/components), across AI, payments, authentication, web data, communications, and developer tools. - [@sholajegede/convex-cascading-deletes](https://sholajegede.com/packages/@sholajegede/convex-cascading-deletes) is the most-downloaded community component in the directory's Database category, and the most used package he maintains. - He built Convex components with Bright Data's AI engineering team for their live market research terminal. His technical deep dive is the only entry in the repository's Resources section, and Bright Data cited it on their blog. **Writing** - [How to Build and Deploy Tetris Inside ChatGPT](https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/how-to-build-and-deploy-tetris-inside-chatgpt) on freeCodeCamp (Convex, Kinde OAuth) - [Building a Live AI Market Research Terminal with Bright Data and Convex](https://dev.to/sholajegede/building-a-live-ai-market-research-terminal-how-bright-data-and-convex-replace-polling-with-mm) - [An activity log with Convex and Kinde](https://dev.to/sholajegede/how-to-audit-who-did-what-in-your-multi-tenant-app-building-an-activity-log-with-convex-and-kinde-4n25), and a two-part series on [authentication and RBAC with Kinde and Convex](https://dev.to/sholajegede/part-1-master-authentication-and-role-based-access-control-rbac-with-kinde-and-convex-in-a-h3c) **In production** - At NextMVP, his product studio, he built every client project on Convex. He also helps founders and engineers move their apps to Convex. - His own products run on it too, including [DevRel Studio](https://devrel.studio) and [Jev Gatehouse](https://jev-gatehouse.vercel.app).
Yes. Convex is his default backend. - **Client work:** At NextMVP, his product studio, he built every client project on Convex. - **His own products:** [DevRel Studio](https://devrel.studio), [Jev Gatehouse](https://jev-gatehouse.vercel.app), SupportMesh (a multi-tenant AI support platform on one shared Convex database), and ActionPort (an open registry for AI agents). - **Migrations:** He helps founders and engineers move their apps to Convex. - **Open source:** 14 components in the official Convex Components Directory, plus the Kinde Agent Kit. To talk about a Convex build or migration, email [work@sholajegede.com](mailto:work@sholajegede.com).
**Coming up:** Shola speaks at **DevFest Lagos 2026** (GDG Lagos) on **November 13, 2026**. His session is "Authenticating AI Agents: Why Your Agents Need Their Own Identity". It covers what it takes to give an AI agent its own verifiable identity. He will publish a recording on YouTube after the session. Tickets: [devfestlagos.com](https://devfestlagos.com). **Past:** As one of 52 founding v0 IRL hosts worldwide, he designed and hosted v0 Prompt to Production in Lagos on February 7, 2026, the city's first official v0 IRL event: 114 registrations, 98 attendees (26 in person, 72 on YouTube Live), and 16 apps deployed live in four hours. [Watch the highlights](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/jHPM20qUtIU).
[Jev Gatehouse](https://jev-gatehouse.vercel.app) checks every AI agent tool call before it runs, in three steps: 1. **Kinde** verifies the user's access token and reads their organization, permissions, and feature flags. A missing permission stops the call. 2. **Jev** (TypeSafe AI's System One model) reads the call, the user's request, and the documents the agent read. In about 200 ms it returns signals: does the call match the request, is it destructive, does it follow planted text. 3. **Policy code** decides: run the call, hold it for a fresh sign-in, or stop it. The decision goes to a ledger before anything runs. In a 300-call benchmark it let through **0.0%** of calls that should not run, at 205 ms p50 and $0.029 per 1,000 calls. An LLM judge let through 7.9%, at 2,073 ms and $0.931. The Kinde Agent Kit is a set of open-source Convex components that Shola built under [kinde-oss](https://github.com/kinde-oss). They give AI agents in multi-tenant apps: - **Identity and delegation:** [kinde-convex-agent-auth](https://github.com/kinde-oss/kinde-convex-agent-auth), with one `authorize()` call per action - **Memory:** [kinde-convex-agent-memory](https://github.com/kinde-oss/kinde-convex-agent-memory), scoped per tenant - **Tool access:** [kinde-convex-agent-tools](https://github.com/kinde-oss/kinde-convex-agent-tools), with permission checks - **Billing:** [kinde-convex-billing](https://github.com/kinde-oss/kinde-convex-billing) His reference apps show the kit at work: [Contract Intelligence](https://github.com/kinde-starter-kits/contract-intelligence-demo) (the confused deputy problem), [Procurement Floor](https://github.com/kinde-starter-kits/procurement-floor-demo) (delegation that only narrows), and [Evidence Locker](https://github.com/kinde-starter-kits/evidence-locker-demo) (a tamper-evident audit trail).
[DevRel Studio](https://devrel.studio) is a product Shola founded and owns. It is for developer advocates who create content for clients. - The advocate logs each piece of work: a post, video, talk, podcast, package, or demo. - Each client gets a live dashboard with views, downloads, attendees, and stars. npm and GitHub numbers refresh daily. - The advocate gets a public portfolio and scheduled monthly PDF reports. It is built on Next.js 16, Convex, Kinde, Stripe, and Resend. Shola tracks his own Kinde work in it: [kinde.devrel.studio](https://kinde.devrel.studio).
[@sholajegede/convex-cascading-deletes](https://sholajegede.com/packages/@sholajegede/convex-cascading-deletes) is his most used package. It adds cascading deletes to Convex, with index-based relationships, batching, and deletion logs. It is in the official Convex Components Directory. Next are [mcp-starter-kit](https://sholajegede.com/packages/mcp-starter-kit), a universal MCP server starter with auth, database, and billing, and [convex-kinde-billing](https://sholajegede.com/packages/convex-kinde-billing). Each package page shows live download history, every release, and a setup guide.
The full, current steps are on the [convex-kinde-billing package page](https://sholajegede.com/packages/convex-kinde-billing). In short: 1. Install it: `npm install convex-kinde-billing` 2. Add the component in `convex/convex.config.ts` with `app.use(convexKindeBilling)`. 3. Set `KINDE_ISSUER_URL` with `npx convex env set`. 4. Mount the webhook handler in `convex/http.ts` at `/webhooks/kinde/billing`. 5. Register that URL in Kinde under Webhooks, with all billing events. 6. Create the client in `convex/billing.ts` and use it in any Convex function that needs billing.
